BEEHIVE - MORNING

BEETRICE lies in her bed, tossing and turning from a nightmare. All of the sudden, without warning, she bolts upright, and drones in a low monotonous voice, as if possessed by a demon.

BEETRICE
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly.
Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.
The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.

BEETRICE'S voice trails off, and she sits there in silence, eyes half closed and unfocused. The alarm clock goes off, snapping BEETRICE out of her sleep. In her panic, she gets caught in her blanket, and falls heavily to the floor.

As BEETRICE untangles herself, she notice blood under her fingernails, and a variety of bruises covering her arms and legs. They are all in various stages of healing, and she pokes each of them in turn, recounting their color.

BEETRICE speaks with her normal voice.

BEETRICE
Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black.

Behind BEETRICE, her shadow lengthens, despite her remaining seated on the floor. It's her DEMON.

DEMON
Ooh, black and yellow! Let's shake it up a little.

...that's a little dark...

It's no good?
I thought it'd be a good idea to perform something people can relate to.

It is very relatable though!

I hope it doesn't scare the younger kids but that's not a reason to not do it. Also the bee costumes.

So many bee costumes...

I thought so too~
It won't be too scary!
Look, the demon is a fun character~ They'll learn not to be afraid of them~

Good luck with the bee costumes.

He seems fun. And I think the bee puns will be a hit.

I'll have to see what the stage crew can do for costumes.

If there's ever a dearth of bee puns, just let me know
